We offer full service options for processing of formaldehyde-fixed and cryopreserved tissues. Our technical staff would be pleased to process, embed, section and stain (standard histological stains and immunohistochemical stains).
Our experienced staff can also work with you to develop new stains.
If you would prefer to simply employ our equipment and have your laboratory staff section and stain, we are please to offer equipment rental on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Details of the facility
The John Mayberry Histology facility has been in operation for 8 years and is a fully operational histology core with the capacity to process, embed and section both formalin-fixed and cryopreserved tissues. The core histology facility occupies 1000 ft2 within the McMaster Immunology Research Centre and is operated by 2 highly-experienced certified histologists (Mary Jo Smith and Mary Bruni) which ensures high quality product. It is equipped with an ASP300 Tissue Processor, an Autostainer XL, a CV5030 Automated Coverslipper and transfer station, an EG1150 Embedding Center, two RM2225 microtomes, a Jung Biocut 2035 Microtome and two CM3050 Cryostats. The facility provides support to the members of the McMaster Immunology Research Centre and external laboratories. Services provided by this facility include: routine histology and special stains, immunohistochemical development and staining as well as frozen tissue sectioning.
