MIRC Trainee of the Month
Our April Trainee of the Month is Danielle Della Libera, an MSc student from the lab of Manel Jordana!
Read our interview with her below:
Can you describe your research?
I am a first-year masters student in the Jordana lab investigating the cellular interactions that perpetuate allergic disease. I primarily work with mouse models to study allergic memory responses. I just helped finish up experimentations for a paper describing a novel phenotype of allergic memory B cells and will be continuing to study these cells throughout my degree.
What advice would you give to future scientists?
Imposter syndrome never really goes away. Remember that every successful scientist you see today was once in your position. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, especially the ‘dumb’ ones, the ‘smart’ ones will come with time.
Why did you choose to do your graduate studies at MIRC?
The collaborative environment was very attractive to me; MIRC was designed to encourage communication between labs. It seemed like a place where I would not only have great opportunities for growth in my work, but also opportunities to learn outside of my niche. In addition to the amazing research conducted by my colleagues, I am also exposed to a tight-knit group of scientists that support me throughout my degree.
What do you like to do when you’re not in lab?
I try to be as active as possible every day, so I’m usually in the gym as soon as I’m done in the lab. I also love to hike, camp, play volleyball, and go out with friends.
