MIRC's Dawn Bowdish has been elected to the prestigious Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Bowdish has initiated and driven an impactful research program in Aging and Immunity since starting at MIRC and has quickly become a leader in the field both in Canada and world-wide. In recognition of this, The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) has elected her as a Member of The College of New Scholars, Scientists and Artists. The College recognizes select individuals who, within 15 years of having completed their post-doctoral studies, have already made exceptional achievements and demonstrated leading scholarly and research excellence. Currently, only 286 individuals in Canada across both Arts and Sciences hold this prestigious position. Congratulations Dawn! We are very proud to be home to a Member of the RSC and look forward to witnessing your exceptional career continue to unfold!
Dr. Jack Gauldie has recently been awarded membership to the Order of Canada.Dr. Gauldie is well known for his remarkable accomplishments over his career as a scientist, administrator, and advocate for research provincially and nationally. Among numerous activities, Jack led the concept of the research centre (previously the Centre for Gene Therapeutics), and building of facilities and the faculty complement that we now call MIRC. His research and leadership has been recognized by McMaster as one of a handful of University Professors. However, membership in The Order of Canada is the highest recognition of achievement provided by our country and we are very proud to be able to include Jack in our list of closest colleagues here at MIRC!
The appointment of MIRC’s Dr. Charu Kaushic as the Director of CIHR’s Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) is of significant impact for the University. This is the first time that any of the CIHR Institutes/Directors has appointed and housed at McMaster. Not only does it magnify Charu’s ability in Immunology research, but further increases McMaster’s Immunology profile nationally and internationally. Dr Kaushic is well deserving of this important national position, and we are proud that the III will be led by Charu and indeed housed right beside MIRC on the Fourth floor of the MDCL!

Recent research published in Biochemistry and lead by MIRC trainees, Eden Kapcan and Ben Lake, and MIRC investigator Dr. Anthony Rullo demonstrate the powerful ability of covalent antibody recruiting molecules (cARMs) to efficiently and stably bridge antibody-binding immune effector cells and target tumor cells. In collaboration with MIRC’s Dr. Matthew Miller and trainee Ali Zhang, the authors work showcases how chemical biology tools can be harnessed to enhance tumor immunotherapies. Congratulations to all co-authors on their impressive work!
